As I stepped inside Dumpling House, I was embraced by the upbeat ambiance, punctuated by the welcoming smiles of the staff. The restaurant has transformed into a modern dining space, offering a mix of traditional favorites and innovative dishes. The innovative use of technology is evident as the menu can be accessed via a handy QR code on the table, though traditional menus are also available for those who prefer to browse the old-fashioned way.
One of the standout highlights from the menu is the wide selection of bao, which includes the BBQ Pork Bao, known for its thick, fluffy bun enveloping sweet, savory BBQ pork. The Chicken Bao Thai Style offers a spicy twist, while the vegetarian Bo Choy Bao featuring shiitake mushrooms and diced tofu is sure to impress those looking for meatless options. Each bao is priced reasonably, often around US$10.25, making it an easy choice for sharing.
Not to be overlooked, the dumplings here are a must-try. Diners have raved about the Chicken Dumplings, celebrated for their flavor and freshness. One customer noted that they were “very flavorful and fresh,” showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality ingredients. The flavor doesn’t stop at dumplings. The menu extends to mouthwatering appetizers like the Szechuan wontons, loaded with authentic spices, and the dan dan noodles, known for delivering a perfect kick. During visits, patrons have also enjoyed dishes such as the tender yet spicy General Tso’s Chicken, which had one customer proclaiming it to be the best they’ve ever had.
For a sweet finish, consider indulging in the Fried Cheese Cake or Mini Sesame Balls, both perfect for satisfying any sugary cravings after a fulfilling meal. Dishes here are served promptly, often within ten minutes, ensuring that you’re never left waiting too long to enjoy the delightful flavors.
While some guests have pointed out areas for improvement, such as cleanliness in the restrooms, the overall experience at Dumpling House remains overwhelmingly positive. “ Went here for dinner two days ago. My friend had recommended this place as I had never been here before. They are known for their dumplings and we tried the chicken dumplings and they were good. I also had the pork buns and the sesame chicken and rice and it was delicious as well. Very flavorful and fresh. I would definitely go back here again. This place did seem to get busy around dinnertime and it was mostly filled with college students. ”
“ This is a newfound gem in Rochester. Environment is welcoming and clean. Food is authentic and great, and is no different from Chinese food you may have in Toronto, a place where the best Chinese chefs live. We don't need to drive to Toronto anymore. Hope the quality stays consistent over time. Among all new Chinese restaurants here, this one has a path forward. Please keep the quality and not decrease over time. Update 2025: brought some friends over there for a quick workday lunch. They all liked it, food was tasty and they would certainly want to come back. Tried the lanzhou spicy noodle and the pork belly buns again, never disappointing. ”
“ This was the first time we had gone to this restaurant. I think they had renovated it or maby a new owner took over because I remember the dumpling house to be different. (That's how long it's been since we checked out the area) My husband wasn't to sure because there was a drive through on the side of the building and thought that was strange but when you walk in it's a totally not what you would think and the vibe is very chill. As soon as you walk in you are greeted and are shown where to sit. The music is up beat dance vibe. There is a card on the table you can scan with your phone for the menu but if your like me ide rather just look at a menu which they have as well. There is a good selection between appetizers and soups and noodles to main dishes. We ordered two appetizers and they came out fast! The entre my husband ordered was the general tsao and he loved it! He said it was the best general tsao hes ever had and the spice level was perfect! You don't really have just one server who ever comes over to clear plates or brings your food asks how everything is or if you need anything. Everyone is very friendly and prompt! Check this place out, you won't be disappointed! ”
“ We came on a Saturday evening and it was packed but we got a table within 15 minutes and our servers were great! The BBQ pork buns were delightfully thick & fluffy and full of sweet flavorful bbq meat inside. The pork xiao long bao tasted fresh and were so fun to eat. We really liked these buns & xiao long bao, and also the Szechuan flavors we ordered: the dan dan noodles were spicy but delicious, tasted authentic with that mouth numbing spice, and the Szechuan wontons were really good too. The only dish we didn’t enjoy was the Lan Zhou spicy beef noodle bowl, which had a bland broth and meat that was mostly chewy gristle—hardly any good edible beef. The bathrooms are in need of cleaning and better quality toilet paper. ”
“ THIS FOOD IS AMAZING!!!! The servers were so sweet and gracious. Food came in less than 10 minutes to the table and hot, I love that! Vibe was incredible in this place it was so good we went 2 days back to back when we visited. DEFINITELY coming back here again. It’s literally the best, the food is so well seasoned & flavor was on point. And the portions are very worth the price. My family and I loved it here! ”
“ This is a fun environment with a unique twist on Asian cuisine. Every meal is prepared with consideration and consistent. This is not your traditional Chinese "take out" though they do offer drive thru pick up. I recommend the wonton soup as it has the most unique and fragrant combination of flavors that highlight their cuisine. I also recommend that if you want to order appetizers don't order your entree at the same time, otherwise they will come in the order the are prepared. We drive about 90 miles round trip to enjoy this restaurant every few months without hesitation or regret. Explore the menu, step away from what you know. FYI the HD menu board is what you'll get spend a minute to look before you sit. ”
“ Wonderful food. The Pork and shrimp Bao was absolutely delicious! The pork belly was cooked perfectly and the pan fried house dumplings were amazing! First trip into Rochester but this will be one of our stops when we do come back. ”
“ Dumpling house is my top place to go for some delicious food and great service. My favorite are the dumplings, but most importantly the Teriyaki Tofu! I get this every time i go with a side of white rice. If you’ve never tried tofu or tend to not like it , try it this way & get a pot of jasmine tea for the table when you go. It pairs extremely well with the food. Also, the service here is always impeccable, such kind and accommodating staff. ”
